IC:

Character name: Yuyuko Saigyouji
Fandom: Touhou Project
Timeline: After stage 1 of Ten Desires.
Age: Over 1,000
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Yuyuko has the unique ability to invoke death in mortal beings, so basically she can kill humans at will. She can also control and manipulate ghosts. In her mortal life she was quite powerful with the ability to invoke death and control ghosts; in death she is even more powerful though in a generic sort of way. It is stated that she is one of the more powerful beings in Gensokyo up there with Yukari.

Like all Touhou characters she has various spell cards for Danmaku battles. There's not much to comment on other than her patterns are rather complex and a majority of them she uses a fan to produce her bullets rather than producing them herself. She also uses butterflies and ghosts in her danmaku.

How would they use their abilities?: She would use danmaku for fun and play; she would never evoke death in anyone as this is an ability that makes her very sad.

Appearance: Yuyuko has short pinkish hair and maroon eyes. She wears a blue dress that is like a cross between a kimono and a western dress and a mop hat.

Background/Personality: Yuyuko is very much what she appears to be; an eccentric and forgetful person but with a kind and forgiving heart. It would be easy to assume that was all there was to her but periodically she gives the impression there is more. Even her closest friend wasn't quite sure of how much was real or effected. Since Yuyuko comes across as random and very air headed (especially since she can't even remember her breakfast that day most the time) it can be hard to make out the meaning in her words. Most the time she seems as if she's just spouting random observations or indulging on flights of fancy. She straddles a fine line between mysterious insight and chaotic forgetfulness. Still the things that are consistent are the most important parts, which is her good heart. Her sense of humor is hard to discern sometimes and that can lead to her jokes being taken seriously. This at times makes her seem more harsh than she really is..

Though she tends to do things as she feels she has never actively done anything to get people hurt. In fact the things that did cause problems were more her lack of forethought than the intention of causing any harm. The incident she caused was simply because she wanted to see her tree bloom and meet the person buried under it. When she says she was borrowing spring she did mean it too. After everything she goes around and returns it.

In life she was the daughter of a poet, who was also implied to be a monk. Her powers were strange; she and many others feared them. Though her power started off minor, it quickly grew. Little is known about her life when she was still living and even Yuyuko can't remember things about it. What we do know is that she killed herself out of a combination of fearing what her powers might become and wanting to seal the Saigyou Ayakashi, and that was over a thousand years ago.

Due to the fact that it was her body and soul that sealed the tree she was unable to reincarnate as her soul was anchored and could not move onto a new life. Her deed though was looked on favorably by the Yama who, impressed with her ability and good nature, assigned her the head of Hakugyokurou the afterlife where souls wait to be reincarnated. She was put in charge of all the souls of the too be reincarnated. Many centuries later (in her first appearance) Yuyuko wanted to see the Saigyou Ayakashi bloom, as she had heard of it being the most beautiful cherry tree to see, which was true. Yet even though she was the one who had sealed that very same tree, Yuyuko had forgotten the events of 1000 years ago. She asked her Gardener and student to gather spring from Gensokyo in order to give the tree life again. She was also curious about the person who was supposedly trapped below the tree and wanted to free them. Luckily for her sake Reimu, the shrine maiden of Gensokyo who solved incidents, was able to stop her before she had fully revived the tree. If she had succeeded in doing so she would have destroyed herself and negated her own sacrifice by removing her soul and body. It was her soul and body that made up the seal keeping the Saigyou Ayakashi dormant.

Later, we see her in Immaterial and Missing Power where she goes around Gensokyo looking for the source of the strange mist that causes everyone to have never ending feasts. She is also in Imperishable Night where she assists Youmu, her gardener, to investigate the fake moon that was created to hide the moon princess Kaguya, who was hiding in Gensokyo as a fugitive alien. In Scarlet Weather Rhapsody she is curious about the weather changes and goes out to look into them, like in Immaterial and Missing Power. However she is more interested in playing with making it snow than really looking for a source. And most recently in Ten Desires, Reimu, concerned about various spirits showing up, went to her assuming she was the cause. Since she wasn't Yuyuko decided to play around with the shrine maiden before telling her anything. After Reimu is able to defeat her (though it's not a normal defeat as there is no damage to Yuyuko) Yuyuko directs the girl to the temple to start her investigation.

1st person sample:
What is this exactly? Hello?

[Clear in view is a young pink haired woman in blue.]

There's quite a lot going on in this thing isn't there? But it's a little hard to make out.

[Suddenly the screen starts to shake as the woman starts moving it all about.]

It's a bit like some of the things Yukari brings back with her, what were they called...?

[There's a light hum as she tries to remember though it doesn't seem she's able to recall at all.]

It's not very important anyway.

[She smiles and laughs softly before waving towards the camera.]

Hello! They told me this would talk to many, many people, so hello everyone. I'm not quite sure how I got here, but it's nice to be here. Well, it's nice to be able to meet people; it's not so nice if Gensokyo and everywhere are truly gone. That would be rather sad. If it did get destroyed though, I hope everyone is here. I don't want to be the only one to be left, that doesn't seem quite right.

3rd person sample:
Before looking into the room she was assigned Yuyuko decided to float about the ship a bit at first. It was such a strange place to her, so alien and different. But unlike some who might be afraid, confused, or lost, she just found wonderment. Of course she was concerned about the idea that Gensokyo was gone, but she wouldn't let that hold her back. No, there was a lot more to consider than the fate of the land she used to know, but where to start? She was given information, but it was a little boring. Where was Youmu when she needed her? She could have the gardener read it all and then summarize it. That way Yuyuko wouldn't have to read it herself. But was Youmu even around? She could only hope.

"How does anyone find anyone in this place...?" she sighed softly and took out her fan, holding it in front of her face.

She looked down to the guide in her hand not quite sure what she wanted to do with it. They had told her it was for communication, but she hadn't quite understood the explanation. It was a technical device of some kind, but she probably didn't need to understand it in too much depth. Knowing it was used to talk to others far away was good enough wasn't it?

"When in doubt talk to everyone available, isn't that what they say?"
